Read the Policy of Jamaica Language School

The School may be referred to as Jamaica Language School. Students, their agent or the school representative must fax, e-mail or mail a completed application form and all pertaining fees to the School. The application form becomes a legally binding document once it is acknowledged/ signed by the School. Only the English version is binding. The contract is subject to the laws of the Jamaica, West Indies. The student understands and accepts that Jamaica Language School are not designed or intended to qualify the participants for employment in English or teaching. They are intended solely for avocational, personal enrichment and enjoyment purposes.

In Jamaica, doctors and hospitals are extremely expensive. Students should have medical insurance purchase via Jamaica Language School (US$175/non-refundable). Jamaica Language School will not be responsible for prescription bills incurred by students in Jamaica. By signing the application form the student authorizes the release of information for medical treatment, in case of emergency and/or accident.

Students who miss their scheduled group classes may not make up their classes or ask for a refund. Course duration is intended as a certain number of consecutive weeks. No refunds or make-up classes are available for group classes missed because of national holidays, acts of God, natural disasters (floods, hurricanes, storms etc.) and events when the school cannot operate.

In order to receive a certificate of completion you must keep a average attendance of 80%, based on a total number of hours you signed up for. Participants enrolled in a sponsored program may be subject to different, higher attendance requirements. In such instance, the sponsor’s required attendance will prevail.
Age requirements. The minimum enrollment age is 10, except for summer programs.

From time to time Jamaica Language School takes photos and videos of its premises and students in order to promote the school through websites, brochures, display boards, photo albums and any other media, including social media. You (or your parents or guardian if you are under 18 years of age) must inform the school in writing before your course starts if you do not allow the use of such images." Unless otherwise communicated in writing to Jamaica Language School before the beginning of your course, registration as a student and attendance at or participation in classes and other Jamaica language School activities constitutes an agreement by the student to Jamaica Language School’s use and distribution (both now and in the future) of the student’s image or voice in photographs, videotapes, electronic reproductions of such classes and other Jamaica Language School activities for promotional and marketing use.

Jamaica Language School is not responsible for any fee(s) charged by its representatives/agents. Any claim arising from differences in fees and enrollment conditions must be addressed directly to the agent/representative. Jamaica Language School staff and/or representatives are not responsible for damage, loss of personal property and injury to persons or property by any cause except those that are imposed by statute.
Jamaica Language School is not liable for theft or loss of personal property while on Jamaica Language School facilities or building. Jamaica Language School is not liable for being unable to render services that are impossible to provide for reasons beyond the control of Jamaica Language School and its representatives.

REFUND POLICY: - WRITTEN NOTICE IS ALWAYS NECESSARY

A written notice of withdrawal will be necessary in all cases. It will have to be submitted to Jamaica Language School by fax, e-mail, mail or in person.

Jamaica Language School will retain the lesser of 25% provided that the person notifies the school of these circumstances before the first day of the program of study is scheduled to begin and also provided that the person, within a reasonable time, provides documentation of the circumstances to the institution.

​Jamaica Language School will retain all funds or reschedule for a later date within twelve (12) months.

If the notice of withdrawal is received by the school, or a student is dismissed within 10% of the program of study’s duration, Jamaica Language School will return all funds except 75% of the total fees due under the contract.
If the notice of withdrawal is received by the school, or a student is dismissed after 10% and before 30% of the program of study’s duration, Jamaica Language School will return all funds except 75% of the total fees due under the contract.
If a student withdraws or is dismissed after 5% of the program of study’s duration, no refund will be given.

If Jamaica Language School changes the start date of a program after the contract has been signed, and the student does not want to take the course in the new date, student will be offered a date of their choice or added class time to complete course on original completion date.

If the person wants to change the start date, provided that the person notifies the school in writing of these changes before 30 days of the program of study is scheduled to begin, then all the fees paid will be transferred to a later date for up to 12 months. If the person does not notify before 30 days of the program of study is scheduled to begin or takes longer than 12 months to start after notifying, then JAMAICA LANGUAGE SCHOOL reserves the right to penalize applicants.

Jamaica Language School will only accept changes of Program of Study between one Full-Time Program to another Full-Time Program, for example, from SE Program to IP1 Program or to a Specialized program. The difference will be credited to more time of study in the same program. Under no circumstance will a monetary refund be give for changes between programs. Changes from a Full-Time Program to a Part-Time Program will not be accepted. All students who want to convert their Full-Time Programs into Part-Time Programs, for example without the Afternoon classes, will not receive any extension in time in their final Program, and under no circumstances will they receive a refund for the difference in price. All students who want to make their Programs longer, for example to include more Afternoon classes or Morning classes, will only pay the difference between the Program they enrolled for and the new Program selected. Jamaica Language School will accept changes of Program of Study between one Part-Time Program to another Part-Time Program, for example, from PT1 program to SE Afternoon Program. All students who want to make their Programs longer, for example to include Afternoon classes or Morning classes, will only pay the difference between the Part-Time Program they enrolled for and the new Full-Time Program selected.

The Accommodation placement fee is non-refundable and nor transferable after the application has been received or payment made and the student has received a placement. In case of changing or leaving a homestay, the person must inform the host family in writing at least 15 days before. If a person fails to give the 15 day-notice, the host family will retain the fees for this time. Postponements or delays of arrival greater than one week, with less than 10 days notice before scheduled arrival, will result in the loss of the original placement fee. Students must pay a second placement fee and might be placed in a different house. No refund will be given to students who choose to end his/her homestay prior to the schedule time.

If a person changes the date of arrival and Airport Reception (pick up), or wants to cancel the service, a notification in writing must be received at Jamaica Language School at least 3 days before the scheduled arrival date. If on the day of arrival there is a change of flights and the arrival time changes, or if the flight is delayed, the student is responsible to contact the Accommodation Coordinator directly, Jamaica Language School and their host family, to inform them of the change. Failure to do so may result in no pick-up, as well as the loss of the reception fee.

from Jamaica Language School. In this case, Jamaica Language School will give the person a written notice informing the student of the dismissal from the school and the reasons for this event. No refund will be given.
RECIPIENT OF THE REFUND If the fees to be refunded were received from an Agent or the student’s parents or legal guardians, then Jamaica Language School will agree with them if the refund is given to them or directly to the person, within thirty (30) days of the notice of withdrawal or dismissal, the school will decide who the Recipient will be.

You can take a break during your Program at Jamaica Language School only if you inform us at the moment of registration, before starting your program. If you decide to take a break after starting your program, please notify the school.
NOTE: The time of your break will not extend your end date. If you are absent from Jamaica Language School for an extended period of time, credit for missed classes will be given only if you were sick and provide the sufficient supporting medical documentation. Should you know in advance of an upcoming extended absence, please make sure to let your instructor know.
NOTE: Classes missed for any other reason will NOT be added to your program. Dispute resolutions policy and procedure Individuals should always try to resolve issues informally. If a more formal approach becomes necessary, Jamaica Language School provides a fair and reasonable mechanism for resolution.
Procedure: First try to resolve the issue directly with the other party. If this does not work You can talk about any problems or difficulties with your teachers in or outside the class, or with any member of the Administration. If no satisfactory solution is found Put your complaint in writing to the Director of Studies. This person will request submissions from all involved parties, including witnesses; conduct an investigation and set up a meeting within 24 hours. The Director of Studies will, in writing, provide a written decision to all parties within 48 hours. It this does not work Repeat procedure 3 with the Executive Director. If no resolution is satisfactory the parties appoint an outside mediator/arbitrator within 48 hours. Jamaica Language School will bear the cost of mediation/arbitration.
Dismissal policy Breaking more than three (3) times our ENGLISH ONLY policy within the school without permission from a member of the Staff. Absenteeism for a period longer than two (2) days without notifying the school and provision of a doctor’s note. Forgery, alteration or misuse of the school’s documents, records or identification, or knowingly furnishing false information to Jamaica Language School. Misrepresentation of oneself or of an organization to be an agent of Jamaica Language School. Obstruction or disruption of, on or off-campus property. Physical abuse of campus property. Theft of or non-accidental damage to Jamaica Language School property. Attending school under the effects of alcohol or drugs. The sale or knowing possession of dangerous drugs, restricted dangerous drugs or narcotics on campus property. Engaging in lewd, indecent or obscene behavior on campus property. Abusive behavior towards a member of the school’s staff. Soliciting or assisting another person to commit any act which would subject a student to expulsion, suspension or probation pursuant to this section. Improper behavior in the homestay house arranged by Jamaica Language School. Violation of Jamaican laws outside the school that involve Immigration authorities or the police. Jamaica Language School. VISA AND ARRIVAL:

A visitor visa may be obtained from the Jamaican Council/Embassy in each country where possible prior to arrival in Jamaica or on arrival.
Students does not need a visa when studying ESL. However, if student is studying over the allotted time that his/her country is allowed to stay in Jamaica for vacation then a visa must be obtained.

Example 1:

If your country is allowed to visit Jamaica for 90 days without a required visa and you are studying for 90 days or less, no visa is require: If you are studying for 91 days or more then a visa must be obtain prior to arrival, or on arrival for US$350 or apply after the first day of school.

Example 2:

If your country is allowed to visit Jamaica for 30 days without a required visa and you are studying for 30 days or less, no visa is required. If you are studying for 31 days or more then a visa must be obtain prior to arrival, or on arrival for US$350 or apply after the first day of school.

Yellow Card:

Countries that need yellow card on arrival in Jamaica are - Peru, Brazil, Argentina, Belize, Cameroon, Columbia, Ecuador, Ethiopia, Ghana, Mexico, Nigeria, Panama, Sudan etc. Visit the www.pica.gov.jm website for other listed countries.
